On 9th December 2010 students and staff presented "Each Individual Matters" to a panel for Investor in Careers. We were advised that we were successful in achieving the Investor in Careers award. Congratulations to all staff, students, families and members of our larger community who helped make this possible.
What is Investor in Careers?
Investor in Careers is a kite mark for quality careers work and is the most widely used standard of its type in England. It links with national requirements and guidance for careers education, information, advice and guidance including:
- The National Quality Standards for Young People’s Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
- The National Framework for Careers Education and Guidance 11 – 19
- The frameworks and programmes of study for Personal Development, Work-related and Enterprise Learning
- Inspection requirements
Why become an Investor in Careers?
Investor in Careers helps organisations provide the good quality careers education, information, advice and guidance that support young people’s achievement and equip them to manage their career development, including learning.
Young people say that they want and need more help when exploring opportunities and making decisions about their next and future steps.
There is strong evidence that young people who receive good quality careers education and IAG achieve more and are less likely to drop out or change courses than those who do not.
Good qualify careers education and IAG are at the heart of personalising learning and contribute directly to the achievement of the five Every Child Matters outcomes – which is why Ofsted inspections look at how well careers work helps young people to achieve good outcomes.
So how is it achieved?
To become and Investor in Careers, organisations must provide evidence that they have achieved specified outcomes. Written evidence is collated in a portfolio. Ten items of evidence that appear in portfolios are assessed in three stages:
- Stage one is outcome 1
- Stage two is outcome 2 – 5
- Stage three is outcomes 6 – 10
Certificates are achieved when each stage is complete with a plaque being awarded when stage three is achieved.
