If so, please give her a ring on 020 7843 6324 - or email jgibb@ncb.org.uk - and she'll get in touch. THANK YOU!"

Kent Freedom Pass

From next January, Swale and Thanet will be included, and from June 2009 the pass will be available countywide.

Kent County Council is the first authority in the country to introduce the Freedom Pass scheme, which allows young people aged between 11 and 16 free bus travel, after purchasing an annual  £50 pass.

The freedom the pass provides to young people gives them more access to sport and leisure facilities, cuts congestion and will allow parents more choice when selecting their child’s school.

More information about the Kent Freedom Pass is available on the KCC website at: www.kent.gov.uk/kentfreedompass

The Marlowe Academy is working with WEDG (World Education Development Group), as part of the London and the South East- Global Dimension (LaSER -GD).  This is an initiative to help schools embed a global dimension in all areas of the curriculum and is funded by the Department for International Development (DfID) as part of their Enabling Effective Support programme.    See www.wedg.org.uk and www.local4global.org.uk for more information.

So far students at The Marlowe Academy have been developing their knowledge and understanding of many global issues.  These include issues surrounding Fair Trade and raising awareness about Fair Trade to both a local and international audience.  Students have developed links with two schools in South Africa sharing information on the cultures of the two countries and how the media operates in the two countries.  These links will allow the schools to share good practice and help the development of all the schools involved.  In Performing Arts students have looked at story telling and dance from a variety of cultures and in Art and Design they have researched and produced art based on different African cultures.

Over the next year, with the support of WEDG and DfID, we will be further developing these themes.  Hoping to strengthen the link between our link schools in South Africa and with World Food Day on 16th October there will be an opportunity for our year 7 students to raise awareness about global food issues.
